Wall Street has extended its losses to a second day as a negative ratings outlook on General Electric shook an already fragile investor psyche. (Dec. 18)

The score was 6-5 and 40:0 for Novak Djokovic on his serve in the first set in the US open 2007 finals. Novak showed that he could handle Federer, and everybody including McEnroe believed if Novak wins the first set he would get support of the crowd, gain the confidence and probably win the finals and all that comes with it...What's happened you be the judge...

Obama: $300 billion in tax cuts President-elect Barack Obama was set Monday to begin the push for a massive package of tax cuts and spending proposals aimed at reviving an economy mired in recession. Obama is meeting with top legislators from both parties including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., as well as Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio. Obama is also planning to deliver a major speech on the economy on Thursday, a senior Democratic official told CNN. The president-elect will propose roughly $300 billion in tax cuts for individuals and businesses. He has not publicly put a price tag on his overall stimulus plan, though his advisers have said they expect it to fall between $675 billion and $775 billion, 40% of which would be in tax cuts. According to an Obama spokesman, several tax breaks are under serious consideration. Middle-class tax cut: Obama would offer a tax cut equal to $500 a year for individuals and $1,000 for couples. The credit would work essentially as a payroll tax credit, meaning the money could be delivered fairly quickly. Companies could simply reduce the tax they withhold from employees' paychecks. The tax credit is likely to be offered only to those below a certain income level, but the Obama team hasn't specified where the cut-off point would be. The credit also would be refundable, meaning that even tax filers without any tax liability -- typically very low-income workers -- would receive one. Business break for losses: Obama is considering a tax break for businesses that book losses in 2008 and 2009. The stimulus plan may extend what's called the net-operating loss carryback to five years, up from two years currently. The provision lets companies apply their losses to past and future tax bills so that they can get money back on taxes they've already paid or would otherwise have to pay. Job creation: Obama would establish a new credit for businesses that either create jobs in the United States or or avoid layoffs. Small business write-off: Obama would increase the amount of expenses small businesses can write off to $250,000 in 2009 and 2010, up from $125,000 currently. While political observers believe the now-added emphasis on business tax cuts as a major part of a stimulus package is one way the Obama team hopes to attract Republican support, that's not how the Obama camp sees it. "We're working with Congress to develop a tax-cut package based on a simple principle - what will have the biggest and most immediate impact on creating private sector jobs and strengthening the middle class. We're guided by what works, not by any ideology or special interests," an Obama spokesperson told CNNMoney.com in an email. link http://money.cnn.com/2009/01/05/news/economy/obama_stimulus/index.htm?postversion=2009010505 Reach me at http://www.kevincraftlive.com

http://www.informedtrades.com/ A lesson on psychology of trading and how it relates to people's inability to let their profits run when trading the stock, futures, or forex markets. In yesterday's lesson we looked at how many traders use technical indicators as an additional factor they consider when deciding when to exit a trade. In today's lesson we are going to begin to move into the next phase of our series on money management, with a look at how traders go about taking profits once a position moves in their favo,r and some of the difficulties that are associated with this. Before getting into the details of what a trailing stop is and how many traders use them, it is first important to understand the psychology behind taking profits. Develop From the last several lessons you should not have a good understanding of some of the psychological difficulties people have in taking losses, and some of the different money management strategies that can be put into place to help overcome these difficulties that are the downfall of so many traders. What may come as a surprise to many of you is that just as many traders have problems letting their profits run as they do in cutting their losses. To help illustrate this I am going to give a quote from one of my favorite books on money management strategies Trade Your Way to Financial Freedom by Dr. Van K. Tharp. When explaining this concept in his book he gives the example below: When given a chance for "1. a sure $9000 gain or 2. a 95% chance of a $10,000 gain plus a 5% chance of no gain at all....which would you choose?" A study which was done on this showed that 80% of the population chose the sure thing even though the second opportunity represents a $500 larger gain on average. Similar to the way that human's are raised in a way that does not allow them to accept losses our environment also teaches us to seize opportunities quickly, or "that a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush", a rule that goes against the second half of the most important rule of trading: "Cut Your Losses and Let Your Profits Run" With this in mind we can now move into the next phase of our series of money management with a look at some of the different ways that traders go about managing their position once it begins to move in their favor starting with a look at trailing stops. Once a position has begun to move in a traders favor, many traders will implement a trailing stop which is basically a strategy for moving the stop they have implemented on their position up when they are long or down when they are short to lesson the loss or increase the amount of profit they will take should the market reverse and begin to move in the opposite direction of their position. As you may realize from watching my previous lessons we have already gone over one precise method which many traders use for setting trailing stops, the Parabolic SAR. In tomorrow's lesson we are going to go over several other methods, so we hope to see you in that lesson. As always if you have any questions or comments please feel free to leave them in the comments section below so we can all learn to trade together, and good luck with your trading!

The Mighty Eighth part 3 of 3

Jan-6-2009 By Admin

From May 1942 to July 1945, the Eighth planned and precisely executed America's daylight strategic bombing campaign against Nazi-occupied Europe, and in doing so the organization compiled an impressive war record. That record, however, carried a high price. For instance, the Eighth suffered about half of the U.S. Army Air Force's casualties (47,483 out of 115,332), including more than 26,000 dead. The Eighth's brave men earned 17 Medals of Honor, 220 Distinguished Service Crosses, and 442,000 Air Medals. The Eighth's combat record also shows 566 aces (261 fighter pilots with 31 having 15 or more victories and 305 enlisted gunners), over 440,000 bomber sorties to drop 697,000 tons of bombs, and over 5,100 aircraft losses and 11,200 aerial victories. Roubini Sees Worst Recession in 40 Years, Stock Drop (Update3) Oct. 14 (Bloomberg) -- Nouriel Roubini, the professor who predicted the financial crisis in 2006, said the U.S. will suffer its worst recession in 40 years, driving the stock market lower after it rallied the most in seven decades yesterday. ``There are significant downside risks still to the market and the economy,'' Roubini, 50, a New York University professor of economics, said in an interview with Bloomberg Television. ``We're going to be surprised by the severity of the recession and the severity of the financial losses.'' The economist said the recession will last 18 to 24 months, pushing unemployment to 9 percent, and already depressed home prices will fall another 15 percent. The U.S. government will need to double its purchase of bank stakes and force lenders to eliminate dividends to save them from bankruptcy, Roubini added. Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said today he plans to use $250 billion of taxpayer funds to purchase equity in thousands of financial firms to halt a credit freeze that threatened to drive companies into bankruptcy and eliminate jobs. ``This will be the first round of recapitalization of the banks,'' Roubini said. ``The government has to decide to intervene much more directly in the provision of credit and the management of these companies.'' The Standard & Poor's 500 Index rallied the most since 1933 yesterday, rising 12 percent, on the government plan to buy stakes in banks and a Federal Reserve-led push to flood the global financial system with dollars. The S&P 500, which has fallen 36 percent since its October 2007 record, dropped 0.5 percent today. `Really Tanking' ``The stock market is going to stop rallying soon enough when they see the economy is really tanking,'' Roubini added. The U.S. unemployment rate stood at a five-year high of 6.1 percent last month. Home prices in 20 U.S. metropolitan areas fell 16 percent in July from a year earlier, the most since records began in 2001, according to the S&P/Case-Shiller home- price index. Bank seizures may push home prices down further, scaring away buyers in coming months, after U.S. foreclosures rose at the fastest rate in almost three decades in the second quarter, according to the Mortgage Bankers Association. Roubini said total credit losses resulting from the meltdown of the subprime mortgage market will be ``closer to $3 trillion,'' up from his previous estimate of $1 trillion to $2 trillion. The International Monetary Fund estimated $1.4 trillion on Oct. 7. Financial firms have so far reported $637 billion in losses, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

Kapitulacja Westerplatte

Jan-6-2009 By Admin

Scena pochodzi z filmu "Westerplatte", z roku 1976, i przedstawia scenę kapitulacji załogi placówki. Mnie szczególnie urzekła scena kiedy Niemiecki dowódca pyta się majora Sucharskiego czy warto było tak długo się bronić, i nie dostaje żadnej odpowiedzi./ At the end of August 1939 the German pre-dreadnought battleship Schleswig-Holstein came to Danzig (Gdańsk) under the pretext of a "courtesy visit" and anchored in the channel near Westerplatte. On September 1, 1939, at 0445 local time, as Germany began its invasion of Poland, Schleswig-Holstein suddenly started to shell the Polish garrison with its 280 mm and 150 mm guns. This sneak attack was followed by an attack by German naval infantry who were hoping for an easy victory, but soon after crossing the artillery fire-breached brick wall they were ambushed and repelled by the Polish small arms, mortar, and machine gun fire from a concealed and well-positioned firing points (crossfire tactics). Another two assaults that day were repelled as well, with the Germans suffering unexpectedly high losses. The only Polish field gun was put out of the action after firing 28 shells at German positions across the channel (silencing several firing positions and hitting a command post). Defenders also counter-attacked and destroyed a German police guard post using hand grenades, but two Poles were mortally wounded in this action. On the first day, the Polish side lost one man killed and seven wounded (three of which died later, including two captured who died in a German hospital), while the German marines alone lost 17 men killed and 54 seriously wounded out of 225 deployed (company commander was also mortally wounded); in all, 40-50 troops were killed according the German sources.[2] The German losses would have been even greater if not for the order by Sucharski for the mortars to cease fire in order to conserve ammunition after just a few salvos (because of this order only 104 out of 860 grenades were fired when the mortars were destroyed the next day). Over the following days, the Germans bombarded the peninsula with naval and heavy field artillery, including 210 mm howitzers. A devastating dive-bombing raid by Ju 87 Stukas on September 2 (26.5 tons of bombs in two waves) destroyed the Polish mortars, directly hit one guardhouse with a 500 kg bomb (destroying it completely), killed at least eight soldiers, and shocked Major Sucharski, after which Captain Dąbrowski took over command of Westerplatte. After the Stuka raids, which covered the whole area in an enormous cloud of smoke, the Germans believed that no one could possibly have survived it; however, it later turned out the relatively few Polish soldiers were killed and the defence was not broken. Repeated day-time and night-time attacks by the German naval infantry, Danzig SS and police, and Wehrmacht (including an attempt of a cross-channel desant), were again repelled by the Poles with a considerable German losses, but nowhere close to the scale of the disaster suffered on September 1. A German armoured draisine was also hit and destroyed by a Polish AT gun.In all, approximately 3,400 Germans (including support troops) were tied-up by being engaged in the week-long action against the 182-strong Polish garrison. On September 7, Major Sucharski reclaimed some of his mental stability and decided to quit what he decided was the hopeless fight. Even though many of his officers and soldiers were against the idea, he surrendered the Military Transit Depot on the same day. The Polish defence impressed the German commanders so much that the German commander, General Friedrich Eberhardt (later the military governor of Kiev during the Soviet-German War), allowed Sucharski to retain his ceremonial szabla (Polish sabre) in captivity.

The Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya makes his return to the ring on Saturday December 6th to fight Manny Pacquiao. The 12 round bout will be in the 147-pound weight classification and it will be held at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event will be televised on Pay-Per-View. Oscar De La Hoya has a professional record of 39 wins and 5 losses and has won World Titles in 6 different weight divisions. 30 of The Golden Boys 39 wins have come by knockout. But the 35-year-old De La Hoya has lost 3 of his past 6 fights. Oscar last fought at 147 pounds back on March of 2001 when he defeated Arturo Gatti by TKO in the 5th round. He has spent the last 7 years fighting in heavier weight divisions of 150lbs or greater. De La Hoya will have a 6-inch reach advantage over his opponent Manny Pacquiao. Manny Pacquiao sports a professional record of 47 wins, 3 losses and 2 draws. Fighting at 147 lbs will be the heaviest for Pacquiao in the squared circle. Manny came in at 134 ½ lbs when he defeated David Diaz by knockout in June of this year. As De La Hoya was disposing of Arturo Gotti in March of 2001 weighing 147 pounds Pacquiao was in the ring 1 month later in April of 2001 weighing just 122 pounds in his native country the Phillipines. Pacquiao began his professional career in January of 1995 fighting at just 106 pounds in the light flyweight division. Oddsmakers have listed Oscar De La Hoya as the minus 240 favorite with Manny Pacquiao the underdog at plus 180. Many boxing pundits feel Oscar De La Hoya should be favored here because The Golden Boy has a strength advantage along with his 6-inch reach advantage. That will do it for now. This is Dana Ward reminding you to check out GamblersTelevision.com during fight week as Tony T delivers his fight selections from Oscar De La Hoya versus Manny Pacquiao.

SUBSCRIBE TO EXCELLENT WORLD WAR II VIDEOS UPDATED WEEKLY Just after midnight on 4 June, Admiral Nimitz, based on patrol plane reports, advised Task Forces 16 and 17 of the course and speed of the Japanese "main body," also noting their distance of 574 miles from Midway. Shortly after dawn, a patrol plane spotted two Japanese carriers and their escorts, reporting "Many planes heading Midway from 320 degrees distant 150 miles!" The first attack on 4 June, however, took place when the four night-flying PBYs attacked the Japanese transports northwest of Midway with one PBY torpedoing fleet tanker Akebono Maru. Later that morning, at roughly 0630, Aichi D3A ("Val") carrier bombers and Nakajima B5N ("Kate") torpedo planes, supported by numerous fighters ("Zekes"), bombed Midway Island installations. Although defending U.S. Marine Corps Brewster F2A ("Buffalo") and Grumman F4F ("Wildcat") fighters suffered disastrous losses, losing 17 of 26 aloft, the Japanese only inflicted slight damage to the facilities on Midway. Motor Torpedo Boat PT-25 was also damaged by strafing in Midway lagoon. Over the next two hours, Japanese "Zekes" on Combat Air Patrol (CAP) and antiaircraft fire from the Japanese fleet annihilated the repeated attacks by the American aircraft from Marine Corps Douglas SBD ("Dauntless") and Vought SB2U ("Vindicator") scout bombers from VMSB-241, Navy Grumman TBF ("Avenger") torpedo bombers from VT-8 detachment, and U. S. Army Air Force torpedo-carrying Martin B-26 ("Marauder") bombers sent out to attack the Japanese carriers. Army Air Force "Flying Fortresses" likewise bombed the Japanese carrier force without success, although without losses to themselves. Between 0930 and 1030, Douglas TBD ("Devastator") torpedo bombers from VT 3, VT-6, and VT-8 on the three American carriers attacked the Japanese carriers. Although nearly wiped out by the defending Japanese fighters and antiaircraft fire, they drew off enemy fighters, leaving the skies open for dive bombers from Enterprise and Yorktown. VB-6 and VS-6 "Dauntlesses" from Enterprise bombed and fatally damaged carriers Kaga and Akagi, while VB-3 "Dauntlesses" from Yorktown bombed and wrecked carrier Soryu. American submarine Nautilus (SS-168) then fired torpedoes at the burning Kaga but her torpedoes did not explode. At 1100, the one Japanese carrier that escaped destruction that morning, Hiryu, launched "Val" dive bombers that temporarily disabled Yorktown around noon. Three and a half hours later, Hiryu's "Kate" torpedo planes struck a second blow, forcing Yorktown's abandonment. In return, "Dauntlesses" from Enterprise mortally damaged Hiryu in a strike around 1700 that afternoon. The destruction of the Carrier Strike Force compelled Admiral Yamamoto to abandon his Midway invasion plans, and the Japanese Fleet began to retire westward. During the battle, Japanese destroyers had picked up three U.S. naval aviators from the water. After interrogation, however, all three Americans were murdered. One TBD pilot, Lieutenant George Gay escaped detection by the Japanese ships and was later rescued by a PBY. On 5 June, TF 16 under command of Rear Admiral Spruance pursued the Japanese fleet westward, while work continued to salvage the damaged Yorktown. Both Akagi and Hiryu, damaged the previous day, were scuttled by Japanese destroyers early on the 5th. The last air attacks of the battle took place on 6 June when dive bombers from Enterprise and Hornet bombed and sank heavy cruiser Mikuma, and damaged destroyers Asashio and Arashio,as well as the cruiser Mogami. At Admiral Spruance's expressed orders, issued because of the destruction of three torpedo squadrons on 4 June, "Devastators" from VT-6 that accompanied the strike did not attack because of the threat to them from surface antiaircraft fire. After recovering these planes, TF 16 turned eastward and broke off contact with the enemy. COMINT intercepts over the following two days documented the withdrawal of Japanese forces toward Saipan and the Home Islands. Meanwhile, on the 6th, Japanese submarine I-168 interrupted the U.S. salvage operations, torpedoing Yorktown and torpedoing and sinking destroyer USS Hammann (DD-412). Screening destroyers depth-charged I-168 but the Japanese submarine escaped destruction. Yorktown, suffering from numerous torpedo hits, finally rolled over and sank at dawn on 7 June. Out of Michael Jordan's career 179 playoff games, he has the astonishing record of 109 playoff games with 30+pts so this one might be lucky to make his list of top 100 playoff games if one wants to judge it on efficiency and victory. However, all MJ games - wins or losses - should be required viewing because of Magic Johnson's superlative quote: "...even if he hits just one shot, it might be the most amazing shot you've ever seen." Well, 35 year-old MJ went 13-29 here (which was respectable for the Finals but still a paltry 45% by his standards) and even with the tough loss, there was no doubt the smooth fades and perimeter-post footwork alone were worth our paycheck and 2.5 hours. But more importantly, this was the last leg of MJ's historic dominance and the world was watching closely. Curious non-basketball fans who never saw one basketball game were tuned in to this one. As underdogs for the first time during the running of the Bulls, some experts suddenly lost their minds and predicted MJ would go out losing because the team was too old with an average age of almost 32 years. And when the Bulls let this one get away at the last second in OT, those voices grew louder and were adamantly set in stone. Bob Costas himself just knew it was over for the Bulls. And what, one might ask, was I thinking during this entire time? The Bulls were coming off a grueling 7 gamer against the Pacers with just 2 days rest (which was only the 2nd time MJ was pushed to 7 games during his reign); the Jazz were motivated and hungry with 10 days rest; the game was in the loudest arena at Utah; two buckets by MJ were called off in crunch time that might have changed the outcome; the game went to OT with MJ and the rest at half-speed still bringing them back in the 4th; and it took a tremendous, brilliant shot by Stockton to eke out the win for Utah in the last few possessions. So what was I thinking? I knew right then MJ had ring #6 in the bag.

Obviously, this game is a loss but when you consider the circumstances, I think it's one of Jordan's most courageous and remarkable performances. In fact, I personally rate this one very high. In this 6th game of the Eastern Conference Finals, Jordan finishes with 32pts (13-25), 13 asts, 4rbs, 3stls, 2blks. This is against a Pistons team which swept the first round, Eastern semis and NBA finals in 1989. They were 15-2 in the playoffs, and the two losses were against Chicago. They were inarguably one of the deepest championship teams ever. To give you an idea, 9 (yes, nine) Pistons players averaged at least 20 minutes per game in the 1989 finals against the Lakers. That has never happened ever since. Having said that, here's what the Bulls starters other than Jordan produce in this game. - Pippen: Out of the the game after the first minute when he takes an elbow in the head from Laimbeer. -Grant: Silly fouls. Picks up his 3rd early in the 2nd quarter and plays very limited minutes. When he's on the court he can't finish easy layups. -Cartwright: 0 for 5 and zero points in the first half. Finishes the game with a total of 4pts, shooting 1 for 8 (tap-in). Can't even hit layups and wide open 15 footers. -Hodges: Only starter to have a decent game. Hits 3 threes in the first half, but only scores 2pts in the entire second half. If Grant and Cartwright had been able to hit some wide open layups/close jumpers off Jordan passes, approaching 20 assists is not even out of question for him. I included some but couldn't fit most of them. And what's even worse is that Bulls frontcourt can't rebound either. Pistons get 18 offensive boards in this game, and despite all the other factors that's probably the main reason they win. Also, it should be noted that Isiah has a great game, especially in the fourth. I wanted to include some of his shots but couldn't because of time limitations. The best Bulls players in this game other than Jordan are Pippen's replacement Brad Sellers who was a 7ppg/3rpg player in 1989. And Paxson who is again a 7ppg/4apg bench player that year. Post game notes and quotes: ================================ Jordan experienced a microcosm of the series and the entire playoffs within his 42 minutes. With Scottie Pippen forced out of the lineup one minute into the game after getting accidentially elbowed in the head by Detroit center Bill Laimbeer, Jordan carried the Bulls all night long. "I was confident coming into the game but little things happen that you don't count on-Scottie getting hurt, getting into foul trouble-I guess you just have to be a man and accept them." Jordan said. Jordan ended the game with 32 points and a game-high 13 assists. Warming up tonight he told a couple of the Pistons he'd "see them Sunday," as in a Game 7 date at The Palace. "It would've been dumb to not say that," he said. "If I didn't that would mean that I thought we were going to lose the game." For Detroit, it was a pleasing end to a grueling series in which defense ruled and physical play was a matter of course. That, of course, is the way Detroit likes it. Yet the Pistons found themselves playing catch up again in the first, when the Bulls streaked to a 26-14 lead behind Jordan. In fact, coach Doug Collins felt so secure about the edge, he opted to sit Jordan for the final 2:27 of the first. The strategy was disastrous. The Pistons ripped off 10 in a row and the Bulls didn't score again, leaving the Chicago edge a slim 2 (26-24). "When I had to substitute, we didn't score," Chicago Coach Doug Collins said. "I had to get Michael a little bit of a rest, and then we had about eight possessions without a point. Brad played starter's minutes so I had to get him some rest." *** "They gave us a whale of a series," Detroit coach Daly said, "but our guys have been focused on returning to the Finals since training camp." That focus Friday led to 15 rebounds by Dennis Rodman, 12 points, 9 assists from Joe Dumars, 11 points, 10 rebounds from Laimbeer, 11 points more from his backup James Edwards and 10 from Mark Aguirre. "They look ready for the finals," said Horace Grant quietly. "They wear you down and wear you down until they have their way." The Pistons had a bad shooting night by most standards but they took 18 offensive rebounds, and the Bulls could not cope with that. When asked how the Pistons were able to contain the most creative player in the league when it mattered most, Detroit coach Chuck Daly answered, "We went to our Jordan rules." Those rules included throwing double- and triple- teams at him each time he caught the ball. "I was concerned," Daly admitted. "They had proved before they could steal one. And the way Jordan was playing, there was no telling what would happen." "I'm proud of myself and our team for the challenge we presented to the Detroit Pistons," said Jordan, who played the fourth quarter after re-aggravating his oft-injured groin early in the quarter. "I wanted to go further. The fans have been very hungry for an Eastern Conference title. My five years here I've spent every year trying to get us further." =========================
